**Tragic Deaths of Uber Drivers in Lagos: An Investigation into the Murders**
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have made a significant breakthrough in the harrowing case of two Uber drivers who were brutally murdered in the Lekki and Ajah areas of the state. The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olarenwaju Ishola, confirmed the arrest of seven suspects believed to be responsible for these heinous crimes.
**Details of the Arrests**
Mr. Ishola revealed that the police apprehended a four-gang syndicate consisting of Emeka Akwara, 19; David Segun, 21; Samuel Ariori, 21; and Lukman Ariori, 19. These individuals were involved in the murder of a Uber driver in a chilling incident. The suspects ordered an Uber at Chevron in the Lekki area on Jan. 9, instructing the driver to head towards Obalende. Upon reaching a desolate area in Obalende, the perpetrators robbed and fatally stabbed the driver multiple times in the neck. Fortunately, their attempt to steal the vehicle was thwarted by the timely intervention of a good Samaritan and passerby. Two suspects were swiftly apprehended, leading to the subsequent capture of the remaining culprits. The deceased victim’s body was taken to the Morgue at Mainland Hospital Yaba, and the police recovered a Toyota Camry Big Daddy, AGL 650 HN, and knives from the suspects. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
**Another Tragic Incident**
In a separate incident on Sept. 12, a three-man syndicate comprising Edmond Julius, 34; Abdullahi Umar, 32; and Saturday Oke, 40, was arrested for the murder of another Uber driver, Oluwaseyi Fowler. The suspects confessed to kidnapping, killing, and robbing the driver of his Toyota Camry in the Ajah area of Lagos. They proceeded to sell the stolen vehicle to a criminal receiver. The police were able to recover the decomposed body of the victim and the said Toyota Camry. The suspects have since been charged and will face legal consequences for their actions.
**Words of Caution from CP Ishola**
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ishola, issued a stern warning to all drivers associated with ride-hailing services like Uber, Taxify, and Lag ride. He advised drivers to exercise caution and vigilance when picking up passengers, recommending that drivers avoid carrying more than one passenger at a time. He stressed the importance of thorough searches before allowing passengers into their vehicles and suggested that passengers be seated in the front for added security. Mr. Ishola highlighted the urgency of this advice, emphasizing that this was only the third reported incident of its kind in three months, hinting at the possibility of unreported cases. The police are taking proactive measures to enhance the safety of drivers by organizing security briefings for those involved in similar activities.
As we reflect on these tragic events, let us remember the dedication and hard work of drivers who strive to provide safe and reliable transportation services. Their well-being is paramount, and it is crucial that we support efforts to ensure their safety and security on the job. Let us stand united against violence and work together to create a safer environment for all members of our community.
