Born on July 15, 1974, into the esteemed Afisi-Shokun-Agbajegoriite-Onilegbale Royal House of Isale-Eko, Lagos Island, Afisi’s journey to the pinnacle of academia has been nothing short of remarkable. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Lagos in 1998, kickstarting a career that would see him rise through the ranks of academia with unwavering dedication and passion.
Following his graduation, Afisi embarked on his national youth service at the Lagos State Model College, Obadore, Lagos State, from 1998 to 1999. His thirst for knowledge and intellectual growth led him to pursue a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Lagos in 2002. Not content with his achievements, Afisi furthered his studies at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 2014, solidifying his expertise in the field.
A Trailblazer in Philosophy
Joining the esteemed faculty of Lagos State University in March 2007 as an Assistant Lecturer, Afisi’s impact was immediate and profound. Over the years, he ascended the ranks, becoming an Associate Professor of Philosophy in 2020 and finally achieving the prestigious title of Professor of Philosophy in 2023. Notably, Afisi holds the distinction of being the first indigenous Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy at LASU, a testament to his unwavering commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
During his tenure at LASU, Afisi also served as the Head of the Department of Philosophy from March 2019 to October 2021, further solidifying his reputation as a visionary leader and mentor to aspiring philosophers.
