So, there’s this dude, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, who used to be the governor of Delta State and also ran for vice president under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023. Well, guess what? He’s only gone and switched sides to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Bold move, right? He says it’s all part of a grand plan to get Delta State in good with the big shots over in Abuja. You know, to get some sweet benefits flowing our way.
Okowa spilled the beans at a rally in Asaba, where the APC bigwigs were all there to welcome him and his successor, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, with open arms. Vice President Kashim Shettima, party National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and the rest of the gang were all there to show their support.
The ex-governor explained that the switcheroo wasn’t about him or Oborevwori, but about connecting Delta State to the power players in Abuja. Apparently, being in the opposition meant missing out on a ton of goodies for the state. And who wants that, right?
He mentioned how Delta State is like this big contributor to the pot of gold in Abuja, so it only makes sense to cozy up to the folks in charge there. After a heart-to-heart with the party leaders and some serious brainstorming, they decided to make the leap.
Okowa made it clear that this move was not just bold and strategic, but also patriotic and well-intentioned. He called on everyone to rally behind President Bola Tinubu and Oborevwori because, hey, unity is key in dominating the political scene in Delta State.
Now, I’m not really sure why this matters, but it seems like Okowa’s defection is causing quite a stir. Saraki thinks it’s a sign of how low leadership has sunk, while the Presidency sees Atiku as a loser and the coalition falling apart. Guess it’s all just part of the drama of politics, right?
In the end, whether this move will bring about the benefits Okowa hopes for remains to be seen. But hey, at least he’s trying something new, right? And who knows, maybe this switch will shake things up in Delta State and lead to some positive changes. Only time will tell.
