The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has just gone and confirmed that one of its staff members, a dude named Gift Eseeli, who is 38 years old, got arrested for supposedly stealing cables at Rafa Yard along the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor. The fella was nabbed by some serious folks from the Man O’ war Railway Command. According to the NRC spokesperson, Callistus Unyimadu, they did some digging and found out that a bunch of 50mm armoured signal cable pieces had mysteriously disappeared from the track side installations. But hey, luckily for them, some officers, led by Mr. Williams Agiake, caught the suspect red-handed before he could make a run for it. The stolen goods were all found and given back to the Nigeria Police Force for a full-on investigation.
The Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, wasn’t too thrilled about this whole situation. He straight up condemned what went down and made it clear that anyone caught messing with the country’s assets would be in for a world of hurt. He even mentioned how these acts of vandalism mess with passenger safety and throw a wrench into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s infrastructure plans. The NRC is dead set on prosecuting anyone, and I mean anyone, responsible for vandalism without cutting them any slack. It looks like messing with railway stuff is becoming a norm, with incidents like this happening not too long ago on the same Warri-Itakpe Train route. The track was out of commission for a bit until they got it fixed up.
FCT and MCO have joined forces to tackle mining disputes, and the police have busted a fertiliser gang in Bauchi, locking up five suspects. It’s like a whole soap opera out there, with drama unfolding left and right. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like things are getting crazier by the day. With all this mischief going on, it’s no wonder the NRC is on high alert. Let’s hope they can keep these troublemakers in check and make sure the trains keep chugging along smoothly.
