# Abuja Lawmaker Provides Free Medical Outreach for 1000 Patients
A significant milestone was achieved in Abuja South federal constituency as Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya, a dedicated member of the house of representatives, spearheaded a free medical outreach program that impacted over 1000 patients in need. The outreach took place in November last year, benefitting individuals suffering from a variety of illnesses who lacked the financial means to seek medical treatment elsewhere.
## Supporting the Underserved Communities
Representing the Abuja South region, which encompasses Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Kuje area councils of the FCT, Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya’s commitment to improving the well-being of his constituents was showcased through this altruistic initiative. During a meeting with APC youth/women groups from Kuje at his constituency office in Gwagwalada, Ajiya shared insights into the impactful nature of the free medical outreach.
The outreach program, an integral part of his constituency projects, was specifically designed to cater to individuals grappling with various health conditions, offering them access to essential medical services without any financial burden. Ajiya highlighted that the November free medical treatment marked the second phase of the program, extending its reach to underserved communities within the four area councils.
## Addressing Critical Health Needs
A staggering 80 percent of the patients who availed themselves of the free medical services received treatment for prevalent conditions such as hepatitis, cataract, hyena surgeries, and management of typhoid and malaria. Additionally, the patients were provided with necessary medications and free eye glasses to support their recovery and improve their quality of life.
In a bid to further uplift the community members, over 600 individuals from the constituency, including elderly men and women, were beneficiaries of a N50,000 empowerment scheme implemented across the four area councils. The scheme aimed to empower the less privileged and marginalized individuals, enabling them to engage in small-scale trading activities to enhance their financial stability and support their families.
## A Holistic Approach to Empowerment
Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya’s unwavering dedication to serving his constituents was evident in his multifaceted approach to addressing their needs. Beyond the medical outreach and empowerment programs, he emphasized the significance of infrastructure development and educational advancements within the region. Notably, ongoing efforts to construct new classrooms at a secondary school in Anagada, Gwagwalada area council, underscored his commitment to fostering sustainable progress and growth in the community.
