anticipate-more-high-profile-defections-to-apc-speaker-abbas

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, reckon more high-profile defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are gonna be popping up in the coming months, mate. During the North-West Zonal Stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Kaduna last Saturday, he spilled the beans with his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, by his side. Abbas mentioned that these defections show how Nigerians are starting to trust the ruling party more, making democracy stronger within the party.

He pointed out that since the 2023 general elections, the APC has bagged governorships in 19 states and holds the biggest presence in both chambers of the National Assembly. The recent defections of federal lawmakers from Kano, Osun, Kebbi, Delta, and Edo states have added fuel to the fire, bringing the total number of defections in the house to 25. Abbas confidently stated, “We’re expecting more big shots to jump ship soon, showing that Nigerians are really vibing with our party and President Tinubu.” You know what I mean?

In addition to that, the APC celebrated their win in the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election, where Sen. Monday Okpebholo snagged a solid victory for the party. Abbas highlighted the importance of the North-West geopolitical zone as a heavy hitter in Nigerian elections, saying it plays a crucial role in shaping electoral outcomes. With over 22 million registered voters in the zone according to INEC’s 2023 data, the North-West ain’t just there for show, mate. It’s a key player in deciding who comes out on top. So, it’s all about keeping the party values intact, staying united, and putting up a strong front to secure that victory, you know what I’m saying?
