The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced a groundbreaking opportunity for students to retake their WASSCE papers in January and February 2025, offering a new pathway for academic success. This move signifies a departure from the traditional system, where candidates had to wait for the next private exam cycle to try and enhance their grades.

John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, revealed this game-changing initiative during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana on December 31st. The programme, known as WASSCE PC1, aims to streamline the process for students seeking to improve their results promptly.

Registration Details and Exam Schedule

Students who wish to retake one or two papers must register online via the WAEC website or at accredited internet cafes by January 8th. The resit exams are scheduled to take place from January 24th to February 15th, 2025, providing a focused window for candidates to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

Preparation Support and Feedback

To assist students in their preparations, WAEC plans to expedite the release of chief examiners’ reports, offering detailed insights into areas of improvement and effective study strategies. This feedback will empower candidates to approach their studies and exams more effectively, enhancing their chances of success.

Opportunities for All Candidates

Students whose results have been invalidated are also eligible to participate in the WASSCE PC1 exams, as long as they have not faced a lengthy ban due to malpractice. WAEC aims to conduct the exams in regional capitals initially due to the limited number of candidates, encouraging prospective participants to complete their registration by January 8th to capitalize on this unique chance for academic advancement.

WAEC remains optimistic that this innovative initiative will enable students to enhance their grades swiftly, positioning them for future academic opportunities without enduring a prolonged delay in their educational journey. With this new approach, students have the chance to take control of their academic destiny and strive for excellence in their WASSCE exams.
