wuanyanwus-son-reveals-fathers-visit-to-nnamdi-kanu-nsights

Jide Iwuanyanwu, the son of the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, former President-General of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo, recently shared details about his father’s final journey on Earth. Chief Iwuanyanwu, an 82-year-old elder statesman, passed away on July 24, 2024, and was laid to rest on November 2, 2024. In a heartfelt conversation with journalists, Jide expressed his gratitude to the government at all levels for their support during his father’s funeral.

A Visit to Nnamdi Kanu

During his last trip to Abuja, Chief Iwuanyanwu paid a visit to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). Jide recounted that when they arrived at the DSS headquarters in Abuja, security operatives at the gate prohibited their vehicle from entering the premises. The only condition for Chief Iwuanyanwu to meet with Kanu was to walk inside, a request to which he readily complied.

It was after this visit that Chief Iwuanyanwu collapsed at his home and was swiftly taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, he did not return alive. Jide, still reeling from the loss of his father, made a heartfelt plea to the government to honor Chief Iwuanyanwu’s dying wish by securing Kanu’s release. The late leader believed that Kanu’s freedom would pave the way for peace, economic revitalization, an end to the Monday sit-at-home protests, and the overall liberation of the South East from the challenges it has faced in recent years.

Expressing Gratitude and Hope

Jide also expressed his appreciation for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kanu, who had engaged in ongoing discussions with Chief Iwuanyanwu on two crucial matters – the release of Nnamdi Kanu and the establishment of the South East Development Commission. He acknowledged the federal government, particularly President Tinubu, for approving the creation of the South East Development Commission but appealed for Kanu’s release as a final tribute to his late father’s legacy.

In a poignant plea to President Tinubu, Jide emphasized that fulfilling Chief Iwuanyanwu’s request for Kanu’s release would not only be a fitting tribute to the revered Igbo leader but also a significant step towards healing and progress in the region. As Jide navigated the complexities of mourning his father’s passing, he held onto the hope that his father’s vision for a peaceful and prosperous South East would eventually be realized.

In these challenging times, Jide’s words serve as a poignant reminder of the interconnectedness of personal loss, political aspirations, and the quest for justice and reconciliation. As he continues to navigate the aftermath of his father’s passing, Jide’s advocacy for Kanu’s release stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and his unwavering commitment to the well-being and progress of the Igbo community.
