Improving Access: FCTA Unveils 9km Road Project in Abuja
Work on the 9 kilometer-Paikon Kore-Ibwa road project in Gwagwalada Area Council has reached an advanced stage. The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, had awarded the reconstruction of the road with a completion timeline of December last year. Over 70 communities in the area council have been reconnected to other parts of the council due to this project. The villages between Paikonkore and Ibwa communities were cut off from other parts of the territory because of a deplorable road and a dilapidated link bridge connecting both communities.
Residents of the benefiting communities, mainly farmers, have expressed gratitude for the road construction opening up their communities and boosting their livelihoods. They can now easily move their farm produce to markets across the FCT. The Community Liaison Officer on the project, Ibrahim Maikeri, mentioned that over 70 communities along the road stretch have been positively impacted by the construction.
Impact on Communities
Maikeri highlighted the neglect the road had faced since its construction over 5 decades ago, making it difficult for farmers to transport their products to markets. The reconstruction of the Paikonkore-Ibwa road has significantly improved the lives of the residents in the communities, addressing transportation challenges and enhancing interactions between different areas.
Community Appreciation
The Aguma of Gwagwalada and the Chairman, Traditional Council of Chiefs, Gwagwalada Area Council, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji, praised the FCT minister for his dedication to various projects in the FCT. The completion of the Paikonkore Road was specifically mentioned as a significant achievement that has transformed the accessibility between the two communities.
Contractor’s Perspective
The contractor in charge of the project, Setraco Nigeria Ltd., completed the project two weeks ahead of the December deadline and handed it over to the Satellite Towns Development Department. The Senior Project Manager, Senaka Rupanetti, credited the speedy completion to the support and cooperation received from the communities and the FCT Administration.
In conclusion, the Paikon Kore-Ibwa road project stands as a testament to the positive impact of infrastructure development on local communities. The collaboration between government entities, contractors, and residents has resulted in improved access, economic opportunities, and social connectivity in the area. The completion of this project showcases the commitment to progress and inclusivity in the region, creating a pathway for further development and growth.
