estranged-husband-denies-deliberately-burning-wifes-apartment-daily-trust

An estranged husband, Osaro Ahuwa, has denied deliberately setting his wife’s apartment on fire in Edo State, despite the unfortunate incident that occurred on December 31 at Asemota Street, Idunowinna Quarters, Benin City. The woman, identified as Tina Uyi, suffered injuries and had to be hospitalized, with property and £4,000 worth of items lost in the fire.

Husband’s Version of Events

In an interview with journalists, Osaro Ahuwa claimed that he did not intend to harm his wife or burn down her apartment. He explained that he had gone to the house to see his wife, not to cause any destruction. Osaro recounted how he had knocked on his wife’s window, holding a jerry can of petrol intended for his generator, asking her to let him in. When she refused, he used the can to break the window, inadvertently igniting a fire.

Emotional Confession

Expressing regret over the incident, Osaro shared that despite their estrangement since January 2023, he had tried to maintain contact with Tina until she blocked his phone number. He mentioned feeling remorseful for the events that unfolded, emphasizing that his intentions were not malicious.

Police Statement

The command’s spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed that the suspect was apprehended after a distress call from Osariten Terecy. According to Yamu, Tina was asleep in her residence when Osaro arrived with a keg of fuel and set the house ablaze. While Tina managed to escape with burns, her home, belongings, and vehicle were destroyed. Both Osaro and another individual were taken into custody, with investigations ongoing.
