The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, like totally said that, like, the government is like planning to construct the Datsin Hausa Dam in Adamawa State, to serve as a buffer to, like, perennial flooding from the release of water from Lagdo Dam when opened by the Cameroonian authorities. So, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing, he was like talking about carrying out a study and design to protect Nigerians from such release, you know?
He was all like, “We are, like, carrying out the study and design of several dams in Nigeria, among which I want to specifically mention the Datsin Hausa Dam in Adamawa. We are, like, super concerned about the dam because there are releases from another dam that comes in, when this water comes, it, like, affects the entire country. The entire country is affected, you know? So, what we are doing now, we have completed the study and design of this dam. We are at the stage of procuring a transaction advisor which will, like, enable us to carry out the construction.
When this is reconstructed, it will act as a buffer dam to the Lagdo Dam that will, like, totally curtail the water that comes out of the Lagdo Dam. This water, we intend that it will be used for irrigation because we have a mass of land over there that we can use this dam to irrigate our country. We are also going to use this dam for water supply in addition to the hydropower development that we are going to put in place to provide additional hydropower source for our national needs, you know? He also added that the government has approved funds for the reconstruction of Alau Dam in Borno State that caused loss of lives and properties after it, like, suffered some damage, you know?
Not really sure why this matters, but the government is, like, really focused on constructing the Datsin Hausa Dam in Adamawa State to prevent flooding from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon. The Minister seems to be really focused on this project and ensuring that it moves forward successfully. And with the approval of funds for the reconstruction of Alau Dam in Borno State, it looks like the government is taking the necessary steps to address issues related to water resources and sanitation. So, yeah, that’s the update on the construction plans, you know?
