The federal government recently unveiled the first-ever barracks for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Yola, Adamawa State. The inauguration of this essential facility marks a significant milestone in the agency’s efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking nationwide.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), emphasized the critical role the new barracks would play in enhancing the agency’s operational efficiency. Previously, the lack of dedicated accommodation for NDLEA officers had left them and their families vulnerable to various risks. The newly commissioned facility, situated on an 18-hectare site in Kwanan Waya, boasts office complexes, residential units, and auxiliary amenities to support NDLEA operations effectively.
A Crucial Investment in Human Capital
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, hailed the barracks project as a vital investment in human capital. He highlighted the government’s commitment to providing NDLEA officers with a secure and dignified working environment, urging them to maintain professionalism and dedication in their service. Fagbemi underscored the agency’s pivotal role in combating drug-related crimes, emphasizing the importance of the fight against substance abuse in safeguarding the nation’s future.
Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, echoed Fagbemi’s sentiments, emphasizing that the barracks project signifies a collective dedication to shielding Nigeria’s future from the perils of illicit drugs. Beyond its infrastructural significance, the newly commissioned facility serves as a tangible representation of the nation’s commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes and protecting its citizens from harm.
In a symbolic gesture of unity and progress, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo; and NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), came together to cut the ceremonial tape at the inauguration ceremony. The presence of these distinguished figures underscored the importance of the event and highlighted the collaborative efforts driving the nation’s fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
As the sun set over the newly commissioned NDLEA barracks in Yola, a sense of purpose and determination filled the air. The gleaming office complexes, neatly arranged residential units, and bustling auxiliary amenities stood as a beacon of hope in the ongoing battle against drug-related crimes. With each brick laid and each ribbon cut, the commitment to a safer, drug-free Nigeria grew stronger, bolstered by the unwavering dedication of those on the front lines of this critical mission.
In the heart of Adamawa State, a new chapter in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking had begun, fueled by the promise of a brighter, drug-free future for all Nigerians. The NDLEA barracks stood as a testament to the collective resolve of the nation, a physical embodiment of the unwavering commitment to safeguarding communities, protecting families, and upholding the values of justice and integrity.
