President Bola Ahmed Tinubu done talk say the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) wey happen for Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, na celebration and continuation of Nigeria’s excellence for sports. The President wey be Vice-President Kashim Shetimma represent, yarn dis one on Sunday, May 18, while e declare open the delayed 2024 NSF for the MKO Abiola Sports Complex for Abeokuta. President Tinubu yarn say sports for Nigeria no be just event but na culture and tool for national integration.

Sports no be only about physical strength, e dey bring us together like jollof rice and dodo. E dey show us say we fit join hand as one united nation. For Nigeria, we don turn sports to our way of life, e no be only event, e be culture. Sports na tool wey dey bring us together, make we dey patriotic and help us shape our body, mind, and spirit. Over the years, sports don put Nigeria for world map. We don produce champions wey dey win medals for Olympics, world-class footballers, heavyweight boxing champions, and stars for tracks and fields. Na dis legacy we dey stand on today. The 2022 National Sports Festival na celebration and continuation of that sporting glory.

The President still talk say even though the festival dey happen for Ogun State, e dey affect the whole country. E say, “This festival no be only competition, e be tribute to our commitment to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship. The games fit dey happen for Ogun State but the excitement dey spread across the whole country. E dey show say sports still dey unite us as one people with one purpose and destiny.” The governor of the state wey dey host the festival, Dapo Abiodun, praise the organising committee say dem arrange the opening ceremony well. E still talk say, “The Gateway no be just competition, e be platform for national unity and youth development.”

After the opening ceremony wey happen yesterday wey get performances from top Nigerian musicians like Davido and Asa, the 22nd NSF go officially start with athletes from 36 states plus FCT wey go compete for medals for 33 different sports from May 16-30.
